Audio education and mentorship are passions of mine.
If I could develop a mobile app it would be one that could connect audio mentors and mentees in a variety of settings whether it’s an industry convention, average work day or a remote location. The app would enable audio professionals to donate increments of their time quickly and easily to share their expertise. The mentoring session can take place in person or online. The app would be intuitive using international symbols for elements being selected such as audio discipline, language and method of communication. The goal would be to have mentors available to audio enthusiasts around the globe to lessen our digital divide. App users would also be able to share photos of sessions, studios and events for inspiration and to build community.
We must preserve the craft of audio production.
According to the US Bureau of Labor there are over 13 thousand audio engineers employed in the US alone*. Technological advances have made equipment more accessible and affordable than ever but the opportunities for apprenticeship are disappearing. Engineers often find themselves isolated and seeking guidance. Whether in million dollar facilities, small bedroom studios or in remote field locations, access to mentorship is invaluable.
Global partnerships can help us thrive.
This initiative would benefit from partnerships with organizations such as the Playing for Change Foundation, NAMM, the Recording Academy or perhaps an international audio manufacturer. Ultimately, global mentorship can help audio engineers capture the sounds of their cultures and that recorded history benefits us all!
